On the seventh day of the budget session of Parliament, the motion of thanks on President Draupadi Murmu’s address was passed in the Lok Sabha without PM Modi’s reply. The President had addressed the joint session of Parliament on 28 January. The discussion on the motion of thanks was going on in the Lok Sabha since February 2. Now the Prime Minister will reply to the motion of thanks in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday at 5 pm.
In the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given time at 5 pm to reply to the motion of thanks, but due to continuous protests, sloganeering and disruptions by opposition MPs, the proceedings of the House were repeatedly adjourned and the Prime Minister’s speech was not possible.
Motion of thanks passed in Lok Sabha
Amid the ongoing deadlock in the budget session of Parliament, the motion of thanks on President Draupadi Murmu’s address was passed by voice vote in the Lok Sabha without Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reply. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla approved the proposal by voice vote amid continuous uproar and sloganeering by the opposition. This is the first time since 2004 that the PM did not respond to this proposal in the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, the opposition alleged that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other MPs were not given adequate opportunity to speak and the democratic process was weakened by passing the motion without discussion.
Prime Minister will reply to the discussion on motion of thanks in Rajya Sabha
President Draupadi Murmu had addressed the joint session of Parliament on 28 January. The motion of thanks was being discussed in the Lok Sabha since February 2. Prime Minister Modi was to reply to the discussion in the House at 5 pm on Wednesday, but due to strong opposition and uproar, the proceedings of the House were adjourned several times. Opposition Former Army Chief General M.M. Slogans were raised on Naravane’s book and other issues, due to which the PM’s speech could not be held.
The opposition continued to protest even after the House resumed this morning. Speaker Om Birla first put the opposition’s amendments for voting, which were rejected. After this he passed the original motion of thanks by voice vote. Opposition MPs kept raising slogans during the passage. Now Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply to the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha today at 5 pm.
