Highest number of deaths due to drowning in Bihar, figures scare

In the economic review presented in the state assembly of Bihar, it has been said that in the year 2024-25, 2,547 people have died due to accidents, out of which most of the deaths have occurred due to drowning. The number of deaths due to disasters occurring in Bihar is increasing day by day. According to the review, this figure was 2,140 in the year 2023-24. The review said that incidents of floods and storms are frequent in the south-central and south-eastern parts of the state.

 

Every year there is huge loss of life and property due to incidents like flood, drought and lightning. Recently, figures from the Disaster Management Department are warning people about the dangers looming over Bihar. What kind of plans is the government now making to make people aware and deal with future challenges?

 

Thousands of deaths due to natural disaster in a year

Very worrying changes have been seen in the statistics of natural disasters and accidents during the year 2024-25. The highest number of deaths during this period were due to drowning incidents, with a total of 2,039 people losing their lives. At the same time, the havoc caused by lightning has also increased compared to last year. While 242 people died in 2023-24, this year the number increased to 305. The number of people dying due to lightning has decreased.

The effect of fire and heat wave was also more fatal this time. The death toll in fire incidents has increased by 25 to 143 compared to last year. Similarly, deaths due to heat wave have also seen a huge jump, with only 12 people losing their lives last year, while this year the number has increased to 34.

 

 

What is the government saying?

The Secretary of the Disaster Management Department says that to avoid any trouble, it is most important to be prepared and reach help at the right time. He assured that the government is fully prepared to provide relief to the families affected by disasters like floods, drought and lightning.

Government’s new initiative

Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA) is now going to launch a big campaign to make people aware across the state. In this campaign, common people will be taught ways to avoid disasters. Children will be given special training in schools so that they can know about the precautions.
