New Delhi: A disturbing case happened in Maharashtra’s Nanded district, where a man was arrested for allegedly killing his six-year-old daughter to meet the eligibility norms for contesting local body elections. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region raising serious questions about the misuse of electoral rules and the depths of human cruelty.
According to the police officials, the accused wanted to contest the upcoming sarpanch election and as per the election rules bar individuals with more than two children from contesting for the post. The man reportedly had three children and is accused of committing the crime to reduce his family count and become eligible.
As per the investigators, the accused deliberately targeted his youngest daughter as part of the plan. He allegedly took the child to a canal and threw her into the water, leading to her death. The police believe the act was carried out with the sole intention of meeting the eligibility criteria for the election.
After the incident, the girl was reported missing and days later, her body was recovered from a canal in neighbouring Telangana, prompting a joint investigation by the both states police teams.
Breakthrough during investigationDuring the probe, Telangana Police flagged inconsistencies in the father’s statements. After further questioning and technical evidence, it was reportedly revealed that the girl’s father was involved in the crime. Based on the findings, the accused was taken into custody and later handed over to the Maharashtra Police for further action.
The officials said the father eventually confessed during interrogation and even admitted that the crime was linked to his ambition to contest the sarpanch election. After which the police have registered a case of murder and are continuing the investigation to establish the full sequence of events.

The child rights activists have also condemned the crime describing it as a grim reminder of how electoral ambitions can be twisted into something horrific. The police officials said the case would be pursued firmly and assured that justice would be delivered.
