Vivek Oberoi Seeks Legal Protection Against Image Misuse

New Delhi: Actor and entrepreneur Vivek Oberoi has approached the Delhi High Court to safeguard his name, image, and other personal attributes from unauthorized use, particularly concerning manipulated and AI-generated content.

Justice Tushar Rao Gedela remarked, "We will pass the order."

In his legal filing, Oberoi claims that multiple entities are unlawfully exploiting his personality rights, leading to significant damage to his reputation and goodwill.

The lawsuit highlights that various impersonators are creating fake social media accounts on platforms like Instagram, using his name and likeness, and generating 'deep fake' and altered content featuring 'offensive imagery.'

These videos often depict Oberoi in misleading and inappropriate contexts alongside other celebrities, suggesting distasteful insinuations that could mislead the public regarding his personal life.

The content in question is described as vulgar and sexually explicit, with the defendants allegedly using Oberoi's image to gain views for their videos.

In addition to his acting career, Oberoi is recognized as a successful entrepreneur with business ventures in India and Dubai.

He has established a credible business reputation beyond the film industry, and the lawsuit asserts that no one has the right to exploit any aspect of his persona, including his name, signature, voice, or image, for commercial gain without his permission.

Furthermore, the lawsuit points out that certain entities are selling unauthorized merchandise, such as posters and T-shirts, featuring his name and image on various online shopping platforms.

Oberoi's legal action seeks to prevent these entities from infringing upon his personality and publicity rights.

Other public figures, including actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan, 'Art of Living' founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, and podcaster Raj Shamani, have previously sought similar protections from the high court.
