Big news is coming out regarding Aadhaar card. India’s Aadhaar issuing body, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), has deleted more than 25 million Aadhaar numbers in the country, and there is an important reason behind this. The government informed the Lok Sabha that the Unique Identification Authority of India ((UIDAI) has deactivated (deleted) Aadhaar numbers of more than 2.5 crore deceased persons to prevent misuse. To prevent misuse, UIDAI has deleted more than 2.5 crore Aadhaar numbers and these belonged to people who are no longer alive.

The government informed the Lok Sabha

In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasad said that Aadhaar is the world’s largest biometric identification system. Which has approximately 1.34 billion active Aadhaar holders. Jitin Prasad said that the Unique Identification Authority of India has deactivated the Aadhaar numbers of more than 2.5 crore deceased persons as part of a nationwide drive to maintain the accuracy and purity of the Aadhaar database.

Aadhaar is only proof of identity

It is important to remember that after the death of a person, their Aadhaar number needs to be deactivated to prevent possible identity fraud or unauthorized use of such Aadhaar number for welfare benefits. Although the government has repeatedly clarified that Aadhaar is only a proof of identity and not citizenship, this single document is now required for all government and non-government purposes, so you should ensure that it remains secure. For this, the government has also launched a new Aadhaar app.

UIDAI Launches New Aadhaar App on January 28

A new one by UIDAI support The app is launched. Which is completely different from mAadhaar. It will have multiple profiles and biometric locks. The new Aadhaar app allows you to do many things from the comfort of your home without visiting the center. This eliminates the need to carry your Aadhaar card with you and you can download this app from Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

The new Aadhaar app allows you to add up to five additional members’ profiles to your Aadhaar profile, meaning you can link the Aadhaar numbers of five family members to a single mobile number. Using this app, you can change the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card from the comfort of your home without visiting an Aadhaar Kendra.

UIDAI has incorporated advanced security features, which enable QR-based verification. Because of this there is no need to show your Aadhaar card and no one can access someone else’s Aadhaar. It provides high-level security. A new app will soon allow you to change your email address and name. This app works with SIM-binding feature, which means you can register only with the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card. If your phone has a different SIM card, this app will not work.
