According to the information revealed on social media and tracking platforms, this problem was not limited to selected users, but was seen on a wide scale. However, no official statement has been issued yet by Instagram regarding this outage.
More than 10 thousand complaints registered on DownDetector
According to DownDetector, a website that tracks outages, more than 10,000 complaints of Instagram being down were filed as of 8:30 pm (Eastern Time) on Wednesday night. The report also revealed that Instagram’s website was more affected by this technical glitch than the app.
Error message shown on website
Many users reported that when opening the Instagram website, error messages like “Sorry, something went wrong” were visible. In some cases the website remained completely unavailable.
Users shared feedback on
After Instagram was down, users shared their displeasure and experiences on X (formerly Twitter).
One user wrote, “Commented on a meme and after going to the message box, I got this message. “Instagram is down.”
Another user shared a screenshot of the website and wrote, “Yes, please fix it as soon as possible. @instagram web down?"
Whereas @jimothy_buckets posted in a funny manner, "Everyone on Instagram is running to Twitter to see if it’s down."
How to fix the ‘Sorry, something went wrong’ error
A user on Reddit shared a possible solution to this issue, specifically for iPhone users:
- Download the Instagram app again, but don’t open it
- Turn on private mode in Safari browser
- Search for Instagram website and open the website instead of going into the app
- Log in to your account and refresh the page 2-3 times if needed
- Open the app by tapping on the blue ‘Open’ button visible on the screen
- If the error persists, refresh both the website and the app and repeat the process
Complaints about account suspension also came to light
Amidst the news of Instagram being down, complaints of accounts being suspended and wrongly flagged were also seen on social media. Since February 3, many users on X claimed that their accounts were deactivated without any prior notice.
One user complained and wrote, "Instagram going crazy, suspending accounts for no reason, then falsely accusing them of ‘breaking community guidelines’ is just ridiculous."
Another post said, "This morning when I woke up, I saw that my account had been locked for the third time and I had not broken a single rule of Instagram." However, these claims could not be independently verified.
