Supreme Court Lifts Ban On Anurag Thakur: The Supreme Court has given a big relief by ending the ban imposed on former BCCI President and MP from Himachal Pradesh and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur from holding the post of BCCI. Anurag will now be able to take charge as an official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Recently, Mithun Manhas has taken over as the President of BCCI. Now it has to be seen whether Anurag Thakur will get any post again or not.

In 2017, Thakur was removed from the post for not implementing the recommendations of the Lodha Committee. The rules of Lodha Committee included many stringent provisions like age limit and government posts. It is believed that this decision of the Supreme Court can bring a major turning point in the administrative structure of Indian cricket.

Anurag Thakur can attend BCCI meetings

The Supreme Court amended its order passed in 2017, lifting the ban on Anurag Thakur from holding office in BCCI. Now Anurag Thakur will be able to participate in BCCI functions and meetings.

Supreme Court had imposed ban in 2017

In this order, Anurag Thakur was instructed to stay away from the internal activities of BCCI. When Anurag Thakur was banned by the Supreme Court in 2017, he was the President of BCCI. At that time, the bench led by the then Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur had issued an order ordering Anurag Thakur to stay away from BCCI activities.

The bench led by the present Chief Justice amended the decision.

Now the bench led by the present Chief Justice Surya Kant has amended that order. The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joy Mallya Bagchi has now allowed Anurag Thakur to participate in the internal, administrative and other matters of BCCI.

The Supreme Court has said that the ban imposed in January 2017 was not given in the form of lifetime disqualification. The Supreme Court said that it did not intend to impose a lifetime ban, nor is it appropriate. Anurag Thakur has already tendered an unconditional apology, which was accepted by the court.
