Sadiya, Feb 5: Prompt action by law enforcement resulted in the successful recapture of three out of four inmates who had fled from Sadiya District Jail on Wednesday, raising serious concerns regarding prison security.

The individuals who were apprehended are Huntu Sonowal (27), Nabin Buragohain (23), and Anchan Jyoti Chetia (24).

Arunima Bhuyan, the Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) in Sadiya, confirmed the news on Thursday, stating that police teams were able to trace the escape route and capture the three inmates by late Wednesday night.

"Upon receiving the alert about the escape, our teams quickly mobilized to the jail. We identified the path taken by the escapees and successfully tracked them down," the Additional SP explained.

She also mentioned that efforts are ongoing to locate the fourth inmate, Sashi Deuri.

"One inmate remains at large. We are conducting an extensive search operation, deploying multiple teams to ensure his swift capture," the Additional SP added.

The escape, which reportedly took place during daylight hours on February 4, has alarmed local residents, many of whom are questioning how such a security breach could occur in broad daylight.

The lack of an immediate official response from jail authorities has only heightened public concern and speculation.

In response to the incident, Inspector General of Police (Prisons) Pulak Mahanta conducted a thorough inspection of the jail premises on Thursday.

Sources indicate that he meticulously reviewed the perimeter, assessed security measures, and convened a high-level meeting with officials from both police and civil administration.

Following this inspection, the IGP mandated a comprehensive investigation to ascertain how the escape transpired and to identify any lapses in responsibility.

Police sources have indicated that a review of security protocols at the jail is underway, with recommendations for corrective actions expected once the inquiry concludes.
