Actor Naseeruddin Shah, known for his brilliant acting as well as outspoken statements, is once again in the news. This time the reason is the last minute removal of his name from a program of Mumbai University, on which the actor has expressed his displeasure and raised serious questions on the organizers and the system. Naseeruddin Shah has expressed his views regarding this entire incident through an article in the media. According to the actor, he was to attend an event organized by the Urdu Department of Mumbai University on February 1, where he was very excited to interact with the students. But on the night of January 31, he was informed that his presence was no longer required. Neither reason was given nor any formal apology was given.
Naseeruddin Shah made allegations
The actor alleged that later the university told the people present there that he himself had refused to come to the program, whereas this was not the case at all. Naseeruddin Shah says that perhaps the organizers did not have the courage to tell the truth. In his article, the actor further wrote that he was also told that a senior official of the university objected to his presence saying that he makes statements against the country. On this, Naseeruddin Shah said in clear words that if it is so, then he challenges that officer to show even one such statement of his in which he has said bad about the country.
Naseeruddin criticizes the government’s decisions
He clarified that he has been criticizing many decisions of the government and will continue to do so because it is his right as a citizen to raise questions. The actor also mentioned the issues on which he has been continuously raising his voice-
Student activist jailed for years without trial
Easy bail for those accused of rape and murder
violence in the name of cow
Changes being made in history and curriculum
interference with scientific thinking
At the end of the article, Naseeruddin Shah raised the question, “How long will this hatred last?” He wrote that this is not the country in which he grew up and which he was taught to love. Today there is an atmosphere of surveillance, surveillance and hatred everywhere. Referring to George Orwell’s novel ‘1984’, the actor asked whether today’s environment is not similar to it, where not praising a big leader is also considered treason.
Talking about the work front, Naseeruddin Shah was last seen in the film ‘Gustak Ishq’ released last year, in which he played the role of a poet. Vijay Verma and Fatima Sana Shaikh were in important roles with him in the film. In the coming time, he will be seen in Anubhav Sinha’s film ‘Assi’.
