A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court regarding Netflix’s upcoming film ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’.
The film’s title is alleged to be offensive to the Brahmin community.
There’s a limit to everything, be it humour, parody, or creative freedom. Manoj Bajpayee‘s upcoming film ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ is currently at the centre of this debate. A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court against the film, seeking a stay on its release and streaming on the OTT platform.

Lawyer Vineet Jindal has filed this petition on behalf of Mahendra Chaturvedi. The petitioner alleges that the film’s title hurts the social dignity and reputation of the Brahmin community. He remarks that the word ‘Pandit’ is considered a symbol of ethics and religious conduct in Indian tradition, and associating it with words like bribery and corruption is equivalent to slandering the entire community.
The petition also claims that such a description violates Articles 14 Equality, 21 Life and Dignity, and 25 Freedom of the Indian Constitution. While the pleader does not deny freedom of expression, he clarifies that this freedom is not unlimited and does not permit damaging or abusing social harmony.
Talking about ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’, in the film, Manoj Bajpayee plays the role of a corrupt police officer known as “Pandit.” The film has a strong cast including Nushrratt Bharuccha, Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, and Divya Dutta. The film’s story is written by Neeraj Pandey and Ritesh Shah, while the direction is handled by Ritesh Shah. The film is scheduled for release on Netflix.
In my opinion, cinema has every right to raise questions about societal issues, but using terms associated with an entire community to portray a negative image of a single character should be done with careful consideration. People are already quite sensitive these days, and hurting someone’s feelings in the name of creative freedom cannot be justified.
Currently, there has been no official statement from Netflix or the film’s team regarding this petition. It will be interesting to see what the court decides in this matter and what the future holds for the film.
