Chumathang village is located about 138 kilometers from Leh. This area is famous for its sulfur-rich hot water springs. According to scientists, the geothermal springs present here are formed due to volcanic activities occurring within the earth. The heat present beneath the earth's surface heats the water and the same water comes out in the form of springs and rivers. The surprising thing is that while the surrounding temperature goes below zero and the mountains remain covered with snow, steam keeps rising from this river.
The most special thing about this village is that people here do not feel the need to heat water for daily tasks. Local people say that it is possible to bathe in this water even in winter.
