According to ZnewsChoi appeared on South Korea’s Channel A’s variety show “Move-in Battle: Penthouse” in 2022, where she asked fellow participant and rapper Seo Chul Gu: “Didn’t you shower?” Seo responded that he had not had time to bathe and appeared visibly uncomfortable. Choi then added: “Being dirty isn’t something to be ashamed of.”

Seo later expressed his displeasure and clarified that he had showered on previous days. Choi responded: “Are you trying to tease me? It won’t be easy.”

Her remarks contributed to a tense atmosphere in the set. A clip of the exchange quickly spread online and drew widespread criticism, with some commenters describing Choi as “desperate for attention” and “the kind of person you wouldn’t want to meet in real life.”

Choi is now again drawing mixed reactions for her appearance on “Single’s Inferno,” where viewers say she sent conflicting romantic signals by simultaneously flirting with four male contestants. The behavior left fellow participants, studio panelists and audiences uncertain about her intentions and sparked a flood of comments on her social media accounts.

Despite the controversy, Choi remains a major focus of public attention. According to the Maeil Business Newspaperdata released Tuesday by local analytics firm Good Data Corporation showed that she topped the celebrity buzz rankings for the final week of January.

Now 27, Choi is the first Korean to win the Miss Earth title and the first to claim one of the “Big Four” international beauty pageant crowns. Born in Sydney, Australia, she lived there until the age of seven before growing up in South Korea, Canada, the U.S. and China, according to PhilStar.

Choi studied communication at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and has taken on minor acting roles since winning the Miss Earth crown.
