Karachi. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan will not play against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and the decision has been taken “after consideration and in solidarity with Bangladesh”. Addressing the Union Cabinet meeting, Sharif said, “Sports should remain free from political influence.”
He also said, “Pakistan should stand with Bangladesh in boycotting T20 matches against India.” Local media Geo News has given this news. It said that Pakistan has decided to boycott the match against its arch-rival India to be held on February 15 in protest after the International Cricket Council (ICC) removed Bangladesh from the tournament.
It is noteworthy that ICC took this decision after rejecting the request of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to hold its matches somewhere outside India. BCB had cited problems in the movement of goods at the beginning of the tournament on February 7.
After this incident, Scotland was included in place of Bangladesh. The ICC had defended its decision saying that it was not possible to change the schedule now. The T20 World Cup matches to be held from February 7 are being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
