Ukraine Russia Peace Talks News In Hindi: The second round of two-day peace talks in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, aimed at ending Europe’s deadliest war since World War II ended without any major results on Thursday. However, this meeting between senior delegations from Kiev and Moscow after a gap of months is being seen as a new beginning of diplomatic efforts.

exchange of prisoners of war

The most important and concrete result of these talks has come in the form of exchange of prisoners of war. Both sides have agreed to release 157 prisoners each (total 314). Photos released by the Russian Defense Ministry showed prisoners being loaded onto buses. President Volodymyr Zelensky called it a positive outcome although he acknowledged that the talks had not been easy.

Role of US Envoy and future challenges

Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff from the US side was involved in this meeting. Witkoff sounded a note of caution after the talks, saying there was significant work still to be done in the coming weeks, so he lowered expectations of any immediate peace deal for now. At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed that for the first time the technical military teams of Russia and Ukraine are sitting face to face in this format.

Differences persist on regional demands

Despite the positive atmosphere, the main obstacle to a peace agreement remains Moscow’s regional demands. The Kremlin’s clear stance is that any agreement would require Ukraine to hand over the entire eastern Donbass region to Russia. On the other hand, Ukrainian officials have rejected these conditions and demanded a ceasefire on the current frontline. Putin has indicated that he is prepared to prolong the war unless his tough conditions are met.

Reality of the battlefield

The talks come as Russia has stepped up attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, plunging large parts of the country into blackouts. However, Russian military ground advances have slowed compared to last year due to harsh winter and Ukrainian resistance. Kirill Budanov, head of military intelligence of Ukraine, called this trilateral dialogue really useful and talked about continuing it in the future.
