Case from Mukherjee Nagar Draws Immediate Attention

The first incident involved a 12-year-old boy who was reported missing from the Mukherjee Nagar area on September 6, 2025. After the family approached the local police, a formal case was registered under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Given the child’s age and vulnerable mental condition, the case was treated as highly sensitive from the outset.

Recognising the seriousness of the situation, the matter was soon transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit. Investigators began a detailed search operation that combined traditional fieldwork with technical methods. CCTV footage from nearby locations was reviewed, neighbourhood inquiries were carried out, and digital surveillance tools were used to track possible movements.

Multi-Pronged Search Leads to Recovery

Police teams also circulated the boy’s description across social media platforms to widen the search. Family members were questioned to understand the child’s routine, behaviour, and possible destinations. These combined efforts eventually led to the boy being located and safely brought back to his family.

During questioning, officers learned that the child had been living with his family in a rented house in Nirankari Colony for several years. To support the household, he worked as a vehicle cleaner during the day and assisted as a night-time security helper. On the day he went missing, the boy had stepped out to play near his home. Due to his mental condition, he lost his way and wandered far from the area, eventually reaching the Anand Vihar Bus Terminal.

Second Incident Reported From Wazirabad

In a separate case, a 15-year-old boy went missing from the Wazirabad area on January 22, 2026. When efforts by the family to locate him proved unsuccessful, an FIR under the same legal provision was registered on January 24. As with the earlier case, the circumstances prompted senior officers to assign the investigation to the AHTU.

The unit initiated technical surveillance and on-ground verification soon after taking charge. Inputs from local staff, including specific information shared by an assistant sub-inspector involved in the inquiry, helped narrow down possible locations where the teenager might be staying.

Teenager Found at Azadpur Subzi Mandi

Following these leads, the missing boy was traced on February 4 at Azadpur Subzi Mandi. Police confirmed that he was safe and not under any form of coercion. He was taken into custody for verification and counselling before being handed over to the authorities concerned.

Further inquiry revealed that the teenager had left home after a disagreement with family members. Instead of remaining in the neighbourhood, he travelled to stay with his maternal aunt, where he remained until police traced him.

Legal Process and Family Reunification Completed

After medical checks and preliminary counselling, both minors were formally handed over to their respective local police stations. Necessary legal procedures were completed, and the boys were reunited with their families. Officials said the cases highlight the importance of swift reporting and coordinated policing when minors go missing.

Police authorities reiterated their commitment to responding promptly to missing children cases and urged families to approach law enforcement without delay in similar situations.
