News India Live, Digital Desk: Common citizens and their families are now bearing the brunt of the ongoing diplomatic tension between India and Pakistan. In a heartbreaking case, an Indian citizen has accused the Pakistan government of deliberately denying him a visa to meet his ailing father. Now that his father has passed away, the son could not even bid him a final farewell in his own country. What is the whole matter? Helplessness of a son: An Indian citizen named Anshuman has shared his pain through social media and media platforms. Anshuman’s father was in Pakistan and was seriously ill for a long time. Anshuman made several rounds of the Pakistan High Commission and requested for a visa on humanitarian grounds, so that he could be with his father in his last moments. Anshuman alleges that he had submitted all the necessary documents and medical reports, but the Pakistani authorities repeatedly rejected his application without giving any concrete reason. “Pakistan deliberately stopped” – the victim’s big allegation. The victim’s son says that this was not just an administrative delay, but a deliberate one. It is an act done. He said, “My father’s health was deteriorating every day, I pleaded with the Pakistani Embassy, but they did not give in. The Pakistan government deliberately delayed giving the visa so that I could not meet my family.” The sad thing was that Anshuman’s father died while waiting for the visa. Now Anshuman has talked about raising this ‘cruelty’ of Pakistan on the international platform. Questions raised on visa policy on humanitarian grounds. This case reminds thousands of families which were divided between the two countries after the partition of 1947. Although there are some visa rules for ‘religious pilgrimage’ between the two countries, diplomatic tension often comes in the way in cases of ‘Emergency Family Visit’. Experts say that despite political differences, families should be allowed to meet on humanitarian grounds, as also mentioned in international human rights treaties. People’s anger is bursting on social media. After the news came out, people are criticizing the Pakistan government on social media. Human rights activists say that using visa as a weapon is condemnable. The victim’s family is now demanding from the Indian government that this issue should be strongly placed before Pakistan at the diplomatic level so that no other son has to face such helplessness in future.
