Iran – Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has departed for Oman at the head of a senior diplomatic delegation to take part in renewed nuclear negotiations with the United States, according to Tehran’s Foreign Ministry. The talks are aimed at reaching an agreement that Iran describes as fair, dignified, and aligned with its national interests, while keeping the focus squarely on nuclear-related issues.

Delegation Arrives in Muscat for High-Level Talks
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed the visit on Thursday, saying Araghchi traveled to Muscat to represent Iran in direct discussions with the US. The negotiations are scheduled to take place under Omani facilitation, continuing the Gulf state’s long-standing role as a mediator in sensitive regional diplomacy.
Baghaei said the Iranian delegation would approach the talks with confidence and clarity, emphasizing Tehran’s intention to pursue an outcome that is mutually acceptable and respectful of all parties involved. He noted that Iran sees diplomacy as a serious avenue for resolving long-standing disputes when conducted on the basis of equality and commitment.
Iran Emphasizes Firm but Constructive Approach
Outlining Iran’s negotiating stance, Baghaei stressed that Tehran would engage “with authority” while seeking a balanced understanding on the nuclear issue. He underlined that Iran’s objective is not merely an agreement, but one that preserves national dignity and safeguards long-term interests.
At the same time, he referenced Iran’s past experiences, pointing to earlier agreements that were not fully honored and to episodes of military and political pressure. These events, he said, have shaped Iran’s cautious outlook and reinforced its insistence on securing clear guarantees in any future arrangement.
Commitment to National Rights and Regional Stability
Despite lingering mistrust, Baghaei said Iran considers it a responsibility to explore every diplomatic opportunity that could benefit its citizens and contribute to regional calm. He added that Tehran believes dialogue, when pursued sincerely, remains the most effective way to prevent escalation and reduce tensions in the Middle East.
He also acknowledged the role of neighboring and regional countries that have supported the diplomatic process, expressing appreciation for their constructive involvement. According to Baghaei, Iran hopes the United States will engage in the talks with realism and seriousness, recognizing the importance of consistent and responsible participation.
Talks Scheduled to Begin Friday Morning
Earlier this week, Araghchi shared additional details, confirming that the negotiations are set to begin on Friday at around 10 a.m. local time in Muscat. He publicly thanked Oman for hosting the talks and for making the necessary logistical arrangements to ensure a smooth diplomatic engagement.
Oman has frequently served as a neutral venue for dialogue between Iran and Western nations, providing a discreet setting for discussions that often require a high degree of confidentiality.
Venue Shift Reflects Focus on Nuclear Issues
Iranian officials also confirmed that Tehran had requested a change in the location of the talks, moving them from Istanbul to Oman. The decision, they said, was intended to keep the discussions strictly bilateral and centered exclusively on nuclear matters, without distractions from broader regional or political issues.
By narrowing the scope of the talks, Iran appears to be signaling its desire for a clear and focused negotiation process. Observers note that the outcome of the Muscat meetings could influence future diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Washington, as well as broader regional dynamics.
As negotiations begin, attention will remain on whether both sides can bridge existing gaps and translate diplomatic intent into tangible progress.
