Famous Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered in Tihar Jail following the order of Delhi High Court in an old case to check bounce. After not getting any relief from the court, the actor surrendered within the stipulated time. According to the information, Rajpal Yadav had filed an application in the court to extend the surrender deadline, but the Delhi High Court rejected his request. After this he was sent to jail. The case pertains to financial transactions and check bounce, in which conviction had already been awarded by the trial court. The High Court refused to interfere in the case and did not stay the punishment.

During the hearing in the court, Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer argued that the actor has made arrangements for Rs 50 lakh and an additional time of one week should be given to complete the remaining formalities, so that the payment can be made. However, the court did not agree with this argument. The bench of Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma clearly said that surrender will have to be done first, only then the petition will be considered. The Court also remarked that whatever relief had been granted so far was based on repeated assurances given by the actor. The court clearly indicated that mere assurance of payment is not sufficient and following the legal process is mandatory. After this, the actor surrendered within the stipulated time following the instructions of the court.

6 months jail sentence

This check bounce case to Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav and his wife has been going on in the courts for many years. This case pertains to petitions in which the couple had challenged the sentence awarded to them for the crime of check bounce. In this case, Karkardooma Court had convicted Rajpal Yadav in the year 2018 and sentenced him to 6 months in jail. His wife was also convicted in the same case. After this the actor moved the Upper Court against the lower court’s decision.

In June 2024, the Delhi High Court had put a temporary stay on the sentence of Rajpal Yadav, but this relief was given with an important condition. The court had said that the actor will proceed as per the agreement with the complainant and ensure payment.

However, the court took a strict stance if the conditions were not complied with within the deadline. In the recent hearing, the High Court made it clear that the relief given earlier was based on repeated assurances and no more time can be given. After this the actor was ordered to surrender first. This case is to Delhi-based company M/s Murali Projects Private Limited, which had given funds to Rajpal Yadav’s company for the production of the film. A case of check bounce came to light during this transaction.
