Pune. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan said on Thursday that ISRO is currently working on the development of reusable launch vehicle (RLV) technology.
He said that the objective of this technology is to carry out space activities in India with limited cost. Narayanan gave this information to reporters during the convocation ceremony at DY Patil International University, Pimpri Chinchwad and told that this work is in the experimental stage.

no competition with anyone
The ISRO chief also answered questions about the competition from private companies like ‘SpaceX’. He said there is no doubt that reusable launch vehicles make the space program more cost-effective. We are currently working towards the development of Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) technology. He said that we do not consider it as competition with anyone. Indian space program is for India. Strength respects strength, and without a vibrant space program no one will support us.

Regarding the Gaganyaan human space flight mission, the ISRO chief said that it is targeted to be implemented by 2027, under this it has been planned to carry out three unmanned missions before the manned flight. Narayanan said, however, that the dates for the first unmanned mission have not been decided yet. He said both the current and next years have been declared ‘Gaganyaan years’, and the work is progressing as per plan. Regarding future planetary missions, the ISRO chief said that Chandrayaan-4 and Chandrayaan-5 are approved programs and are targeted to be implemented around 2028. He said that activities to Shukrayaan mission are progressing as per schedule.

When asked about the recent incidents to the PSLV mission, Narayanan said that the organization does not see these as failures. He said that everything is a learning process. Committees are analyzing data and working toward better understanding the systems. The ISRO chief said that detailed findings will be shared after the analysis is completed. Narayanan said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ISRO is focusing on national needs and serving the common citizen. He said that a target has been set to increase India’s space economy from the current two percent to eight percent.
