Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway sparked fury on the ITV breakfast show as she grilled aLabour MP live on air. On Friday (February 6), the 58-year-old broadcaster returned to the helm alongside her co-star Ranvir Singh as they discussed the biggest stories hitting the headlines. It didn't take long before attention turned back to Lord Peter Mandelson as pressure continues to mount on Keir Starmer to step down as Prime Minister.

On Thursday (February 5), the Labour leader apologised to the victims of Jeffrey Epstein for appointing Mandelson as the UK's ambassador to the US - and for "believing his lies". To get an insight into how the party feel about his hand in the former business secretary's fall from grace, the presenting duo welcomed Labour MP Mike Tapp onto the show.

Garraway asked: "Is there no question of the things he may or may not have seen or may or may not have been aware of? How could it be? You have to understand that we're trusting the Prime Minister with our lives, with our children's health, with our futures. You've got to understand how people are deeply frustrated that a belief was made on lies."

The politician began: "I do understand that frustration and that sadness, but what we've got to remember here is that the vetting process took place-" before Kate interrupted him, saying: "It was a failure!" It was at this point that he snapped back with: "Please do let me finish because it's almost pointless interviewing me."

However, the broadcaster continued to speak over him, insisting: "I will do, but you're quoting the vetting procedure, which I think he wasn't rigorous enough in establishing a vetting procedure or even care. That's what people are saying." He agreed: "I get what you're saying, but if you let me finish, I'll give you an answer.

"So the vetting officers obviously went through their procedure. That relationship between Mandelson and Epstein was obviously put to Mandelson. That then went to the Prime Minister after the answers were given.

"Now, I have to make it really clear that this is a government failure if vetting isn't working, and that is why releasing all of these documents and that transparency is vital for me and for the whole country to make sure that this never happens again.

"Mistakes are made in government, but a true sign of leadership is owning that, apologising, being transparent, ensuring that the public sees what went on and then fixing it so it doesn't happen again." Throughout his response, Kate was heard sighing aloud as her co-host, Ranvir Singh, was picked up and whispered in her ear.

It didn't take long before viewers flocked to social media to share their complaints on the explosive row. One user fumed: "Why don't they just let him speak?" as another agreed: "This is going to be a tough interview with these two [sad emoji]". A third echoed: "Car crash interview, GMB get this sorted."
