Well, if we talk about the food of Indians, wheat bread will definitely be included in the plate of most of them. Be it lunch or dinner, food is not complete without rice and wheat bread. However, it is said for patients that wheat can increase the sugar level.
Now, to know the truth about whether this is a myth or truth, TV9 had a special conversation with senior dietitian Geetika Chopra. Let us tell you whether it is right or wrong to eat only wheat bread daily? Also, by taking care of what things you can keep the sugar level normal or under control.
Should diabetic people eat wheat bread or not?
Senior dietitian Geetika Chopra says that it is a common confusion among many people that eating wheat increases sugar. Experts say that wheat is not a bad food in itself. But which wheat is being consumed in which form and in what quantity, it decides whether there will be a blood sugar spike or not. According to science, wheat is a carbohydrate source and carbs are converted into glucose. If wheat is eaten in refined form like flour, bread, naan, biscuits or pasta, it gets digested rapidly and takes the blood sugar high.
Therefore, refined is directly harmful for a diabetic patient. But whole grain flour contains fiber which helps in digestion and sugar absorption occurs normally. In this form, wheat does not spike the sugar as aggressively as long as the quantity is under control.
eat bread made from these grains
The expert further said that the problem increases for diabetic patients when only wheat bread is eaten daily. If 3 to 4 rotis are eaten daily without protein and fiber, this problem can increase further. Experts say that diabetic patients should not depend only on wheat. Such people can eat wheat bread three days a week but alternate it with flour from other grains. If you want, you can eat jowar, bajra, ragi and barley mixed with wheat flour. You can also eat bread made from these grains directly by alternating them every day. These grains are low glycemic and keep the insulin response better.

The expert further said that we do not completely refuse wheat but eating it in large quantities every day is not right. If you want to eat, then prepare such a plate which includes intake of whole grains, 1 to 2 rotis, fiber rich vegetables and protein. The real secret of sugar control is to eat grains alternately. Apart from this, eat in pieces and focus on the balance plate. Blaming wheat alone for increasing sugar is not the solution.
