New Delhi: Before the T20 World Cup 2026, if any team is in the news the most, it is Pakistan. The reason for this is not his recent performance or any major decision in team selection or any strong claim. The reason Pakistan is in the headlines is its controversial decision. The Pakistan government has decided to boycott the match against India in the T20 World Cup. Due to this, there has been chaos even before the start of the tournament. While due to this decision, talks are being raised about ICC’s action against Pakistan, at the same time it itself can prove fatal for it because this team is in danger of being eliminated without even taking the field.
Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will start in India and Sri Lanka from Saturday 7th February. Team India will take the field on the very first day and start its campaign. The Indian team will face USA but this will not be the first match of the tournament. This time the first match of the World Cup will be played between Pakistan and Netherlands. This match will also take place on 7th February, but while the match between India and America will start at 7 pm, the Pakistan-Netherlands match will start at 11 am.

Threat to Pakistan’s matches
But this is the real problem for Pakistan, which can harm it. As per the pre-decided conditions, the Pakistani team is playing all its matches in Sri Lanka and this seems to be proving fatal for it. Actually, where this match is to be played in R Premadasa, Colombo, heavy rain is expected on Friday morning. According to weather forecasts, there may be heavy rain in Colombo from 12 noon onwards. If this happens then this match of Pakistan will be completely washed out and it will get only 1 point.
Similarly, on February 10, Pakistan has to play its second match in Colombo, where it will face USA. This match is going to be equally challenging for Pakistan because in the last T20 World Cup, the American team surprised Pakistan by defeating it in a sensational manner. But not only this, light rain is also expected on 10th February. If the match is canceled due to rain on that day too, then the Pakistani team will again get only 1 point.
Will Pakistan be out of the tournament without playing?
Now if the match between India and Pakistan is not played on 15th February, then full 2 points will slip from the hands of Pakistan. In such a situation, he will have the challenge of defeating Namibia in the last match. Even if she does this, she will be able to get only 4 points. On the contrary, USA, Netherlands and Namibia will also have the possibility of getting at least this many points because these three teams have to play their remaining matches in India. In such a situation, you will not be surprised if this Pakistani team gets eliminated without even taking the field and reaches a do or die situation.
