Sri Lanka has announced that Pramod Madushan will step in for the injured Eshan Malinga in their squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Malinga had to withdraw after suffering a shoulder injury during the T20I match against England on February 1. Madushan, who was initially left out of the 15-member squad revealed earlier this month, is now back as a direct replacement.
At just 24 years old, this medium-fast bowler has played in eight T20Is for Sri Lanka, claiming 12 wickets with an economy rate of 8.63. He was part of the squad that faced England before being released when the final World Cup team was announced on February 2. Interestingly, his last T20I appearance was back in April 2023.
Madushan will join a pace attack that features Matheesha Pathirana and Dushmantha Chameera. The 2014 champions kick off their campaign against Ireland at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 8, with Australia, Oman, and Zimbabwe also in their group.

Sri Lanka's choice to bring Pramod Madushan back into the squad really boosts their pace attack as they gear up for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Although Eshan Malinga's injury is a tough blow, Madushan's return offers the team a dependable and familiar option, especially after his recent performance against England.
At just 24, he has already proven his knack for taking wickets in T20Is, and now he gets another shot on the big stage. Teaming up with Matheesha Pathirana and Dushmantha Chameera, Madushan aims to fortify Sri Lanka's bowling as they kick off their campaign against Ireland in Colombo.
