A historic UK city known for its industrial past has been named the worst place to live in Britain this year. Recent data shows that crime rates in the city are 90% above the national average.

Eufy has named Bradford as the worst place to live in the UK in 2026. The security company recently released its top 10 worst places to live based on crime statistics, social issues and economic hardship. According to Eufy, the West Yorkshire city has struggled with increasing crime rates in recent years, particularly a rise in drug activity and economic offences.

Eufy said: "Bradford has become one of the worst places to live in UK, struggling with high crime rates. According to Numbeo, it tops the UK's crime index, driven largely by drug activity and economic offences. Crime rates are 90% above the national average, and even though it has many security cameras, safety remains a major concern for residents."

Data from Numbeo shows that crime rates in Bradford have increased over the last five years. Local people have reported robberies, car thefts, assaults, drug dealing and vandalism.

Meanwhile, statistics from West Yorkshire Police revealed that 560 crimes were reported in Bradford, which has a population of around 560,000, last December. This number included 166 reports of violent and sexual offences, 61 cases of shoplifting, 42 reports of criminal damage and arson and 40 cases of antisocial behaviour.

Despite these statistics, Bradford is known for being a historic city with stunning Victorian architecture. It is the official "Wool Capital" of the Industrial Revolution.

The main landmarks in the city include the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire Village and Salts Mill. The historic Alhambra Theatre and the National Science and Media Museum are also popular attractions.

According to Rightmove, house prices in Bradford were an average of £184,715 over the last year. The majority sold were terraced properties, averaging £138,945. Meanwhile, semi-detached properties sold for an average of £195,259 and detached properties for £319,714.

Bradford has a number of reviews on TripAdvisor. Most people note that, like many other parts of the UK, there are both nice areas and less nice areas in the city.

Wild Rumpus Travel said: "Like many cities it has nice parts and not so nice parts. It has thriving communities and interesting museums. It also has deprivation and poverty."

Alex Y added: "I stayed for a few days when working nearby. Found it to be unremarkable. Some bits I saw were no more or less run-down than other parts of the UK I have visited."

Englandsscout wrote: "It's a city that like many others have that have its gritter/ run down side, not a city that would be on many visitors to see list whilst on a holiday from overseas, each to their own I suppose , and yes I have been, not as a tourist mind you."
