WhatsApp is getting a Close Friends feature similar to Instagram. This will allow users to select who they want to share their status with.

WhatsApp is preparing to bring a powerful feature from Instagram to its users. The company is working on a Close Friends feature. The advantage of this will be that the user's status will not be visible to all their contacts, and they won't have to constantly change their privacy settings. With Close Friends, users will be able to select the people they want to share their status with. This feature is already available on Instagram, where users can share their stories with their close friends.

How will this feature work?

The Close Friends option was first spotted in the Android beta version of WhatsApp. After its rollout, users will be able to create a list of their close friends. Then, whenever a user posts a status, they will be able to select to share it with the contacts on that list. The Close Friends list can be managed through the status privacy settings or while updating the status.

The list won't be permanent

Another special feature of the Close Friends list is that it won't be permanent, and you can edit it as you wish. This means you can add and remove contacts as needed. Additionally, when you share a status with your close friends, they will see a different colored ring around your profile picture. This will let them know that the status has been shared with close friends and is not visible to everyone.

Work is also underway on a custom contact list

In addition to the Close Friends feature, WhatsApp is also working on another privacy-related change. The company may also introduce a custom contact list for status updates. In this, users will be able to create multiple groups with different names and emojis. For example, a user will be able to create lists named Family, Office, Games, and Gym, etc., and share their status with those groups. This will eliminate the need to repeatedly add people to their Close Friends list.
