Vardaan, son of Vikrant Massey and Sheetal Thakur, was born on 7 February 2024. During the legal documentation of the child, the couple decided to leave the column to religion blank instead of filling it. In his interview to Times Now, Vikrant made it clear that the Government of India gives him this option and it is his right to use it.

Vikrant said that the government has given this facility that you can mention religion or not if you want. He said that when the system gives you this freedom then it is not wrong to adopt it. He compared it to the change in which it is no longer mandatory for single women to mention their husband’s name on their passport.

The actor further said that he comes from a multicultural family and has seen the bad side of religious tension around him. This experience inspired him to take this decision. Vikrant said that he wants to protect his son from any kind of religious or social pressure.

He stressed that he wants his son to have the right to decide for himself what identity he wants to adopt when he grows up. According to Vikrant, it is not right to put any label on any child right from birth.
