New Delhi . Vaibhav Suryavanshi, one of the heroes of India’s historic victory in the Under-19 World Cup 2026, caught the attention of the whole world with his bat. Vaibhav, who played a stormy innings of 175 runs in the final against England, not only became the Player of the Final but was also the second highest run scorer in the entire tournament by scoring 439 runs. Apart from this, he also made the record of hitting most sixes in this World Cup by hitting 30 sixes.
After seeing such a performance at the age of just 14, it was natural for the Indian fans to raise the question that Vaibhav Suryavanshi can still play one or two more Under-19 World Cups. But the reality is completely different from this. Vaibhav will not be able to play the next Under-19 World Cup and the reason behind this is not age but the strict rules of BCCI.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi will complete 15 years on March 27. The next Under-19 World Cup is to be played in the year 2028. At that time, Vaibhav’s age would be around 17 years, that is, he would have been completely eligible in terms of age. In such a situation, he could have a golden opportunity to play not one but two Under-19 World Cups. But BCCI rules put brakes on this possibility.
Actually, BCCI had implemented an important rule regarding junior cricket in the year 2016. Under this rule, no Indian player can participate in more than one Under-19 World Cup. The objective behind this decision was to increase the talent pool and to give international level exposure to more and more young players.
The situation was different before 2016. At that time, players were allowed to play more than one Under-19 World Cup according to age. For this reason, many famous Indian players have become a part of this tournament twice. But after the rule change, once a player plays the Under-19 World Cup, he does not get a chance to be selected for the next edition.
Before the introduction of this rule, players like Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Vijay Jol, Ricky Bhui and Avesh Khan had represented India in the Under-19 World Cup more than once.
Now, despite Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s brilliant performance, it has been decided that he will not be able to play the World Cup again at the Under-19 level. However, cricket experts believe that with the kind of talent Vaibhav has shown, he can soon move towards India A and senior team.
