Shahid Kapoor faced a sudden rush of fans during the launch of the song 'Paan Ki Dukaan' from his upcoming film 'O Romeo' in Mumbai on Friday. The actor had invited a handful of people to join him on stage. Within seconds, many more climbed up, crowding around him. Security pulled him away. He stepped off until the area was cleared, then returned to continue the event.
The disruption unfolded while Shahid promoted the film with Triptii Dimri. Videos spread quickly online. Hindustan Times earlier reported on Shahid’s approach to choosing roles and quoted him at length about seeking truth and vulnerability in performance.
Mob chaos at 'O Romeo' eventAccording to Hindustan Times, the evening began smoothly. Shahid greeted the crowd and called a few admirers up to dance. The invitation triggered a surge. More fans jumped onto the platform and surrounded him. The guards moved quickly and escorted him away. Order returned after a brief pause.
Shahid came back to loud cheers. He finished the appearance and expressed gratitude. “Thank you guys. You have been amazing,” he told the audience.
'O Romeo' film details and controversy'O Romeo' also features Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal, and Vikrant Massey. Vishal Bhardwaj wrote and directed the action thriller. Sajid Nadiadwala produced it under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The story draws from the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The film is set to reach theaters on February 13.
In a past interview with Hindustan Times, Shahid explained how his instincts have changed. “Over time, I found myself gravitating toward characters with more depth—people with layers, contradictions, and grey zones. I enjoy diving into what drives them, what challenges them, and even what they’re trying to conceal. That internal complexity excites me far more today. Somewhere along the way, authenticity became more important to me than delivering a perfectly polished performance. I’m interested in truth, vulnerability, and the nuances that make a character feel real—and that shift has completely transformed how I approach my work.”
The project has also drawn legal attention. Sanober Shaikh, daughter of Hussain Ustara, has sought a permanent injunction, alleging the film presents an unauthorized and false portrayal of her father.
