Climbing a mountain can test more than just your stamina—it can test your patience, mindset, and determination. Ankur Warikoo recently shared an experience from his trip to Bhutan’s Tiger’s Nest Monastery that perfectly illustrates this. What began as a physically exhausting climb for him and his 13-year-old son, Vidur, turned into a lesson about perseverance, mindset, and the power of taking things one step at a time.
During the climb, both father and son struggled. Vidur felt like giving up midway, overwhelmed by the steep path and the effort it demanded. Ankur admitted he felt the same way. Yet, he realised that the climb wasn’t about reaching the top in one go—it was about focusing on the journey itself. Instead of looking at the daunting distance ahead, he encouraged Vidur to focus only on the next step.
By breaking the climb into small, manageable steps, both Ankur and Vidur slowly made their way upward. Step by step, they pushed through exhaustion, doubts, and the urge to quit. Eventually, they reached the top together, having completed the climb not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.
Ankur shared this story to remind everyone that challenges don’t need to be conquered all at once. Even when the goal feels distant or impossible, progress comes from taking the next small step forward. For him and Vidur, the Tiger’s Nest climb became a lasting lesson in patience, determination, and the value of focusing on one step at a time.
