In the age of social media, every piece of content, unfortunately, has to have a hook and a CTA. Music seems to have followed suit to stay relevant. But does it really have to? Musician Armaan Malik does not agree. In fact, he thinks creating songs with emotion is far more important than cashing in on the virality. Because songs are meant to connect with the listeners, not to satisfy the codes of the algorithm.
Talking to ANI, Malik stated that the music industry today is highly influenced by algorithms, rather than the purpose.
"I think we are creating more songs for virality than we are creating them for emotion,” the singer-songwriter said. He also added that the quality of live songs has been diluted in this mundane exercise. At a time when most musicians across the world are jumping on 1-minute music and other trends, Malik feels music should not be driven by short-form.
He pointed out that the songs from the past, especially the 1990s, continue to evoke emotions. He also believes that timeless love songs still have their listeners. "I do feel so. Yeah, I think a lot of love songs are missing today that are timeless," he said.
"There is a certain magic in 90s melodies and songs that we need to bring back again in today's music.”
Malik, who is all set for his live show 'Root for Mangroves' in Gurugram today, February 7, added, "Using my voice for the right reasons is very important to me."
He is also part of ‘India's first musical movement for nature'. "I think for me as an artist, standing for the right reasons, you know, and using my voice and my platform for important conversations like this, important movements like this is very important to me as an artist," he said.
Talking about the importance of mangrove conservation, he added, "The entire environment is very important for our existence in general.
