The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash between West Indies and Scotland at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, produced a special moment as Romario Shepherd claimed a stunning hat-trick, sealing West Indies’ strong start to the tournament.

Scotland faced a tough challenge to chase 183 runs yet they maintained their chances of success until the end of the game's last four overs. Shepherd turned the game with his exceptional performance during one particular over. He achieved this hat-trick by dismissing three batters at consecutive deliveries in the 17th over and the all-rounder continued his wrath by scalping a wicket of the last ball to make it four in an over.

The hat-trick came with a perfect delivery. The ball moved late after seam-up delivery which Davidson attempted to play but it crashed into the off stump. His teammates surrounded Shepherd who celebrated by running away from them. The T20 World Cup hat-trick created a special moment for the audience at Eden Gardens who reacted with extreme excitement.

Scotland Start Well but Fall Short at the End

Scotland showed good intent early in their chase. Richie Berrington led the fight with a brave 42 off 24 balls, while Tom Bruce added 35 runs, keeping Scotland in the contest. The target appeared to be within reach at one point.

Scotland lost their grip on the match after the first wicket fell. Their scoring became difficult when they needed 50 runs from 18 balls because they lost wickets at regular intervals. Shepherd's spell completely broke their resistance because Scotland lost wickets from 133-6 to 133-9 within a short period and Scottish side were bundled out their for 147 by West Indies with seven balls to spare.

The man guy with the ball for West Indies in this game was Romario Shepherd as the all-rounder bagged a fifer. Seasoned all-rounder Jason Holder also picked up 3 wickets, helping West Indies register the victory in the campaign beginner.

West Indies Batters Set the Platform

West Indies scored 182 runs for 5 wickets after they began their batting first. Shimron Hetmyer scored 64 runs from 36 balls and he hit six sixes while controlling the middle overs to become the match's top player.

Brandon King, Rovman Powell, and Sherfane Rutherford all provided fast runs to support him at the batting crease. West Indies managed to cross the 180 mark which turned into an impossible target for Scotland because of their late scoring push.

West Indies proved their complete team performance through their batting and bowling which sent a strong signal to all Group C teams.
