A stunning island destination with attractive 29C weather in February has direct flights from the UK. Winter blues are going nowhere for many Brits, as February looks set to be a wintry month in terms of weather conditions. However, February is a glorious month in some parts of the world, including this country that enjoys highs of nearly 30C throughout the winter months. Plus, the country is slowly becoming a favourite for many British tourists who don't mind a bit of a longer travel day.
The airline industry has boomed over the last few decades, meaning more and more places are becoming reachable with direct flights from Britain. Some of these glorious countries are located across the Atlantic in the Caribbean Sea, where tourists enjoy incredibly beautiful beaches, friendly hospitality, cheap food and delightfully sunny and warm weather. Many of these small nations have become favourites for British travellers, such as this incredible one with welcoming resorts and a slew of exciting and relaxing things to do.
The Dominican Republic is a small country that makes up half of the island of Hispaniola. The other half of the island is occupied by Haiti, which is on the Foreign Office's 'no-tral' list for 2026.
However, the Dominican Republic remains a favourite for many. In February, you can expect high temperatures of around 29C. This gets even warmer in the summer months, when temperatures can reach highs of around 32C.
Direct flights from London Heathrow are operated by British Airways. These flights land in Punta Cana and normally cost between £700 and £800 (for a one-way fare).
While Pubta Cana has plenty of seaside resorts and beaches for you to enjoy, there are also more rugged mountainous areas for you to explore around the country, if you are more of an adventure-seeker rather than a chilled-out beach-goer.
In Punta Cana, some of the best beaches to visit include Juanillo Beach, Playa Bavaro and Corales Beach, to name just a few. All of these feature bright sand and crystal-clear waters, elements that give them their true paradise feel.
However, there are plenty of other popular resort towns and cities dotted around the coast of the Dominican Republic. Another go-to area is Boca Chica, which is also known for its incredible beaches as well as its delicious fried fish dishes loved by locals.
Meanwhile, there is also Santo Domingo, the capital of the country. This city is located along the coast and boasts plenty of fascinating history. The top attractions to visit here include The Three Eyes, a mystical open-air cave with a lake inside, which looks like something from a fairytale or fantasy movie.
Additionally, the capital city has the Fortress of Columbus, Columbus Lighthouse, the Museum of the Royal Houses, and the Zoological Park.
The Dominican Republic is considered relatively safe to travel to, but the Foreign Office does have specific advice for Brits travelling to the Caribbean country. For example, crime rates are high, and there have been incidents where tourists have been mugged at gunpoint or knifepoint.
Meanwhile, thieves on motorcycles snatch bags and valuables from pedestrians and sometimes reach through the windows of cars at red lights to steal belongings. Tourists are urged not to walk alone late at night, avoid wearing expensive jewellery, avoid leaving drinks unattended, keep smartphones out of sight and keep car windows shut and doors locked.
Tourists have enjoyed their time in popular resort areas, but have advised future visitors to stay in these places and not venture outside. One Reddit user wrote: "The resorts were nice, obviously. I personally did not feel safe when I left the resort and ventured into town to see how the locals lived."
Another shared: "If it were me, I'd 100% do an all-inclusive like Riu Republica. It's easy, safe, super fun for a birthday trip, and you can still do all the excursions without stressing logistics."
