New Delhi. Pakistan’s drama in T20 World Cup 2026 is not showing any signs of stopping. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is once again going to take advice from its government. This advice will be regarding the boycott of India-Pakistan match to be held in Colombo on 15 February, which Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appealed to reconsider.
The Pakistan government has given permission to PCB to send a team to play the T20 World Cup, but has stopped it from playing against India. This is the same match which is considered to be the highest earning match for ICC and its broadcasters.
Why is Sri Lankan cricket worried?
Sri Lankan cricket is afraid of financial loss due to the absence of India-Pakistan match. Regarding this, Sri Lanka Cricket has sent an email to PCB, in which it has been said that if this big match does not take place on 15th February then:
There will be huge loss in ticket sales (gate money)
Income from hospitality and sponsorship will decrease
The image of the tournament in Sri Lanka will also be harmed
Sri Lanka is jointly hosting this T20 World Cup with India.
relations between pakistan and sri lanka
Pakistan will play all its matches in Colombo and Pallekele. Its first match is against Netherlands on Saturday. A source with knowledge of this entire matter said, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have always had good and close relations at both the government and cricket levels. In such a situation, the match of Sri Lankan cricket cannot be ignored like this.
The source also said that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been directly contacted by Sri Lanka Cricket Board President Shammi Silva. Shammi Silva reminded Naqvi that at this time Sri Lanka needs Pakistan’s cooperation, because if the India-Pakistan match does not take place, then Sri Lankan cricket will have to lose additional income.
Will Pakistan government change its decision?
According to the source, Mohsin Naqvi has assured Shammi Silva that he will put this matter before the Pakistan government and then give a reply. He clarified that the reports in the media that Pakistan has already rejected Sri Lanka’s appeal are wrong.
The source said, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was not in the country since yesterday and is returning today. He will present this email to the Prime Minister regarding ending the boycott of the match against India. A decision on this issue can be taken by Monday.
Earlier also Sri Lanka had supported Pakistan
The source also reminded that in November last year, the Sri Lankan government had openly supported Pakistan. At that time, some Sri Lankan players wanted to leave the Pakistan tour midway and return due to security reasons, but both the Sri Lanka Cricket Board and the Sri Lankan Government had instructed the players to complete the white ball series in Pakistan.
