The dating dictionary is really short of words. After situationship, benching, ghosting, now Gen Z has come up with a new term – 6-7 dating. It sounds like a maths question, but actually it is a formula to the calculations of the heart. Here, there is no race to find a perfect 10/10 partner, but the thought of finding peace at 6 or 7 is going viral.

For Gen Z, now comfort and stability are more important than perfection in love and this 6-7 dating formula has become a topic of discussion on social media.

What is 6-7 dating trend?

6-7 Dating does not mean judging someone by a number, but understanding that a person can be right for you even if he is not “perfect”. That is, the person with whom you feel safety, peace, trust and stability. Gen Z believes that a 10/10 looking, filmy romance partner can often prove to be tiring in real life. Therefore they prefer to choose a partner who is “good enough” i.e. 6 or 7.

Thinking of coming out of the perfect fantasy

The Disney movies and romance novels seen in childhood created an ideal image in the mind – a charming prince or princess. But in reality, a partner is found in school, office, through friends or in a café, and not by singing songs in the forest. Gen Z is breaking this fantasy. They are understanding that relationships do not run on show, but on comfort and understanding.

Why is 6-7 the “sweet spot”?

This trend marks a middle ground between commitment and casual dating. A bit like situationship, but reliable. A partner who is emotionally mature, kind, does not create drama, and is easy to live with. That is, such a relationship which does not give sleep, but gives peace.

Is it to “settle”?

Some people consider this trend a red flag. They feel that calling someone 6-7 is controlling or compromising. But Gen Z considers this not a compromise but a realistic choice. He believes that no person is 10/10. On knowing, every 10 turns into 8 or 7.

Combination of green, beige and yellow flags

6-7 Dating means removing the red flags and seeing how many green, beige and light yellow flags are there in the person in front. If the person is trustworthy, emotionally available, and can laugh with you, then he or she is worth dating.

6-7 Dating trends teach us that love is not a movie script, but everyday understanding, trust and comfort. Perhaps this thinking will change the definition of dating in the future.
