Kuala Lumpur, 8 February. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that like “many of us in India”, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is a “big fan” of ‘MGR’. During the luncheon organized in the honor of Prime Minister Modi, a song from Tamil actor’s film ‘Naalai Namadhe’ was presented, during which Modi mentioned this.
Marudur Gopalan Ramachandran is popularly known as ‘MGR’. He was a popular Indian actor, director and producer. He founded the ‘All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’ (AIADMK) party in Tamil Nadu and became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He died in 1987.
‘Naalai Namadhe’ is one of the actor’s many blockbuster films, which was released in 1975. Prime Minister Modi posted on social media platform
Modi said, “Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is also a big fan of MGR like many of us in India!” Malaysia is the country with the second largest population of people of Indian origin, mostly Tamil people. Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to Malaysia.
Earlier, while addressing a community program in Kuala Lumpur, he said, “The Tamil diaspora living in Malaysia is serving the society in various fields and he also said that the Tamil diaspora has been in Malaysia for many centuries.” He said that inspired by this history, India has established the ‘Thiruvalluvar Chair’ in the University of Malaya and will now establish a Thiruvalluvar Center to further strengthen the shared heritage.
