A Vasai resident, who was missing for almost 17 years, was finally reunited with his family even as he was found admitted to a hospital in Miraj in Sangli district following a road accident. The man, admitted as an unidentified patient, was identified through the vigilance of the social services department of the hospital, leading to the long-awaited reunion of the family amid emotional moments.
The man has been identified as Santosh Damodar Patil, who was a resident of Vasai in Palghar district and ran a small paan shop. According to the information, he went into deep mental stress due to the sudden death of his elder brother in the year 2007. In this state, he left the house without informing anyone and then the family could not have any contact with him. In the initial years, the family members searched for him a lot, but no clue was found. As time passed, the family started believing that perhaps Santosh was no longer alive.
It is said that after his disappearance, Santosh kept wandering at different places for years and was living in Sangli-Miraj area for some time. He was injured in a road accident in Miraj on January 13, after which he was admitted to the government hospital as an unidentified person. He was later shifted to a care center for treatment.
During treatment, a social services officer at the hospital talked to him and gradually gathered some basic information from him. Santosh told his name and said that he was a resident of Vasai. Based on this information the officer informed his contacts in Vasai area.
This information eventually reached local corporator Ganesh Patil, who turned out to be a relative of Santosh. The family was contacted after identity was confirmed through video call. After this, Santosh’s wife Manda and son Harshad reached Miraj and brought him back home after completing the necessary formalities.
The family has described this reunion, which took place after almost two decades, as a very emotional and unforgettable moment. Also, the role of the social services department of the hospital is being appreciated, whose initiative allowed this human story to reach a happy ending after years of uncertainty and suffering.
