U-19 World Cup Champions India receive grand welcome at Mumbai airport – WATCH

New Delhi: The Under-19 Cricket World Cup-winning Indian team received a grand welcome at Mumbai airport on Sunday, February 8. The celebrations erupted at the airport to honour their sensational performance in the tournament. India defeated England by 100 runs in the final to clinch their sixth U19 World Cup title at Harare Sports Club on February 6.

Batting first, the Men in Blue set a 412-run target for England after electing to bat first. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi struck a blistering 175 runs off just 80 balls, smashing 15 boundaries and 15 maximums.

Captain Ayush Mhatre also scored 53 runs from 51 balls, while Abhigyan Kundu made a vital contribution with the bat, amassing 40 runs off 31 balls. Chasing the target, Caleb Falconer fought hard for England and scored 115 runs, but his side fell well short of the target.

RS Ambrish took three wickets, while Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chouhan picked up two wickets each. After winning the title, Ayush Mhatre and Co. arrived at the Mumbai airport to a grand welcome by Indian fans.

BCCI announces prize money for India’s U-19 team

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a Rs 7.5 crore prize money for India’s U19 team. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia lauded the team for winning the 2026 Under-19 World Cup, and announced that the board will award the team a cash prize of Rs 7.5 crore for players, coach and support staff.

“The whole country is proud of our young champions. So, they brought lot of good luck to the country and because we are also starting the T20 men’s World Cup in India today, during this time with this championship in the year, so our men’s team will get also encouraged by the performance of our young turks in Harare,” Devajit Saikia told PTI.

“And as a result of their excellent performance, BCCI is very proud to announce a reward of 7.5 crores for our players and the support staff along with their selectors,” he added.

India had previously won the U-19 World Cup in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022.
