QR Code Scam: A small mistake while making a QR code payment can lead to huge losses. Pay close attention to the screen and do not accept any request without understanding it. Otherwise, your wallet could be emptied.

QR Code Scam: Nowadays, people in India are using online services for everything. Previously, people carried cash in their pockets for payments. But now the situation has completely changed. People now make payments through online systems. Several UPI apps are available for this. People mostly pay through QR codes. QR code payments have made transactions extremely easy, fast, and convenient.

The UPI system has become a safe mode of payment today. However, some fraudsters find ways to commit fraud by exploiting small loopholes in the system or by tricking unsuspecting people. One such scam is currently going viral on social media. In this scam, an auto driver defrauded a person. Learn how you can protect yourself from this scam.

₹15,000 deducted from the account instead of ₹1500

A video going viral on social media shows how ₹15,000 can be deducted from an account instead of ₹1500 if one is not careful while making a payment. Content creator Sanket Prakash Khandagale easily explained this method through a fictional story to make people aware.

This video shows how a person scans an auto driver's QR code, which shows ₹1500. But ₹15000 is deducted from the person's account. Normally, this type of scam doesn't happen when the user manually enters the amount on their mobile phone. However, not looking at the phone screen properly in a hurry and confirming the payment without checking can lead to money being deducted.

How does the scam work?

In this viral video, it can be clearly seen how a person gets out of an auto and makes a payment of ₹150, but ₹15000 is deducted from his account. The video explains the entire process. In it, the person scans the auto driver's QR code. However, this QR code isn't actually for making a payment.

Instead, it's for approving a payment request. It's important to know that not all QR codes are for receiving money. Some QR codes send a payment request. If you ever see a request like "Collect," "Pay," or "Approve" on your screen, you shouldn't confirm it without reading it carefully.

Protect yourself with these methods:

This viral video was shared on Instagram by the account @spiktec_. It explains that if a vegetable vendor, auto driver, or delivery person asks you to make a quick payment, always check the screen after scanning the QR code to see if it's displaying an "Approve Request." Because if you click on it and enter your UPI PIN, the request will be accepted. And just like in the video where 15,000 rupees were deducted instead of 1,500, the same could happen to your account.
