Shankar Mahadevan 's ' Breathless ' is one of the masterpieces the Hindi music industry has ever delivered. However, Javed Akhtar recently shared how no composer or music label wanted to back the idea initially. The veteran screenwriter and lyricist shared the journey behind the creation of the song, crooned by Mahadevan. Let's take a look at it.

According to the India.com report, Javed Akhtar expressed that he conceptualized 'Breathless' way before it was released. He shared that even renowned classical singers and composers stayed away from the project. He said, "Even the biggest classical singers and composers said we cannot make a song like this. When they said they could not mold this into a song, I would ask for the tunes and say I would do the rest."

The screenwriter further added, "Everyone would just give me a smile, calling it an interesting idea, but no one dared to get on board."

Javed Akhtar added that he was on a mission to make the song happen at any cost. However, he stated that he will not share the names of those who rejected the idea, as it would be "embarrassing."

However, after seven long years of waiting, he met Shankar Mahadevan, who said yes to the project. He said, "And when I say seven, I mean seven, not five, not six."

Javed Akhtar wondered what if he had not met the singer-composer. He stated that the song would have never been made. He said, "I would still be sitting with ‘Breathless’ unmade."

The lyricist expressed that he would have accepted that there is something wrong with the song, as everyone has rejected it. He added, "The details about this row are very embarrassing. They would ask me, who will sing it? No one can sing it. How will the song get popular?"

However, Javed Akhtar stated that the struggles didn't end there, as the music label didn't have faith in the song. He said that the marketing team was not ready to release the track or the music video. He added, "There was an argument over it."

The veteran film writer stated that the marketing department has a list of requirements to release the music. He added, "These are a bunch of people who do not understand anything about music. If they did, they would not be in marketing; they would be making music."

He concluded, saying, "What the marketing department believes in is one thing: nothing should be done for the first time. The second time, no harm."
