Sri Lanka defeated Ireland by 20 runs in the T-20 World Cup with Kusal Mendis’ half-century and Teekshana-Hasaranga’s lethal bowling.

Sri Lanka has started its campaign in the T-20 World Cup with a win. In an important match played on Sunday, the Sri Lankan team defeated Ireland by 20 runs. In the team’s victory, after the brilliant half-century of batsman Kusal Mendis, the magic of spin duo Wanindu Hasaranga and Mahish Teekshana was seen, who together took 6 wickets.

Ireland won the toss and decided to bowl first, after which Sri Lanka scored 163 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. In response, Ireland was all out after scoring 143 runs in 19.5 overs.

Sri Lanka made a strong score with Mendis’s fifty.

Kusal Mendis handled the innings for the Sri Lankan team who came to bat first. He played an important inning of 56 runs in 43 balls. In the last overs, Kamindu Mendis batted brilliantly and took the team to a respectable score by scoring 44 runs in just 19 balls. Barry McCarthy and George Dockrell were the most successful in bowling for Ireland, both taking 2-2 wickets.

Irish team trapped in the web of spinners

Harry Tector (40 runs) and Ross Adair (34 runs) tried to give a good start to the Irish team chasing the target of 164 runs, but they could not stand against the Sri Lankan spinners. In the middle overs, Vanindu Hasaranga showed the magic of his spin and showed the way to the pavilion to both the set batsmen.

After this, Mahish Teekshana completed the remaining work. Teekshana completely turned the match towards Sri Lanka by dismissing Benjamin Calitz (4) and Gareth Delany (0) on two consecutive balls in the 17th over. Teekshana took a total of 3 wickets. Hasaranga also made 3 batsmen his victims. Fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana ensured the team’s victory by taking 2 wickets. No other batsman from Ireland could stay at the crease for long and the entire team remained 20 runs short of the target.
