Crime – A young man from a Dalit community has suffered permanent damage to his eye following a violent altercation in the Aurai area, prompting police to register a case under serious criminal charges.

dalit youth eye injury crime

A man in his early twenties is undergoing treatment after a shocking assault in Uttar Pradesh left him blind in one eye. The incident occurred in the Aurai locality on Friday afternoon and has drawn attention due to the brutality involved and the caste-based allegations linked to the attack.

Dispute Near Canal Escalates

According to police officials, the injured youth, identified as Rahul, had gone near a canal in the area to relieve himself when he was confronted by a local resident, Shankar Bind. The confrontation reportedly began after the accused objected to Rahul defecating close to the canal embankment.

What started as a verbal exchange quickly intensified. Authorities stated that the accused allegedly used caste-related slurs during the argument, further escalating tensions. Eyewitness accounts gathered by investigators suggest that the situation spiraled out of control within minutes.

Assault Leaves Victim Seriously Injured

Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik said that as Rahul attempted to leave the spot, the accused attacked him. In a particularly disturbing act, the assailant allegedly thrust a motorcycle key into Rahul’s left eye.

The victim reportedly collapsed in pain as the accused fled when local residents began assembling at the scene. Bystanders immediately informed the police.

Officers arrived shortly afterward and transported Rahul to a nearby community health centre. Given the seriousness of the injury, he was shifted to the district hospital for specialized care.

Referred to Varanasi for Advanced Treatment

Medical professionals at the district hospital determined that the injury to Rahul’s left eye was critical. He complained of complete vision loss in the affected eye. On Sunday, doctors referred him to the Trauma Centre at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi for advanced treatment.

Police confirmed that his condition remains serious. Doctors are continuing efforts to assess the full extent of the damage and provide necessary medical support.

Case Registered Under Strict Legal Provisions

Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Ram Dhani, police have registered a case against Shankar Bind. The charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Superintendent Manglik stated that legal proceedings are underway and that authorities are taking the matter seriously. Efforts are being made to ensure that the accused is held accountable under the law.

Investigation Continues

Police officials said that further investigation is in progress, including recording statements from witnesses and collecting medical reports. Authorities are also examining whether additional charges may apply based on the findings.

The incident has raised concerns in the local community about safety and caste-related tensions. Law enforcement officials have assured residents that strict action will be taken in accordance with legal procedures.

As the victim continues to receive medical care in Varanasi, the case remains under active investigation.
