ICC, PCB, BCB historic meeting: Breakthrough likely in India-Pakistan World Cup deadlock

The biggest T20 World Cup breakthrough is likely to happen following a five-hour meeting between ICC, PCB, and BCB officials at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

The intense negotiations follow Pakistan’s decision to participate in the World Cup while boycotting its match against India in the wake of Bangladesh’s removal from the tournament.

The ICC delegation, headed by the Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja, landed in Pakistan to meet PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and BCB President Aminul Islam.

Reports suggest that the international cricket governing body has prepared a formula to address the grievances of Bangladesh and has requested Pakistan to fully participate in the event, arguing that a boycott would damage the sport.

Reportedly, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was willing to accept the ICC demands, but subject to three conditions: A larger PCB share of ICC revenue; Commitment to resume the bilateral series with India; and formulation of a “handshake policy” to ensure sportsmanship

Khawaja urged the PCB to present these demands to the ICC arbitration committee rather than boycotting the matches.

The ICC has also stated that it has “nothing to offer to Bangladesh as compensation, but to ensure it would get a full share from the ICC earnings.”
