Mahashivratri is one of the biggest festivals of Hindu religion, which is celebrated by the people as the wedding celebration of Mahadev and Mata Parvati. Some people are confused about the date of this festival in the year 2026 between 15th and 16th February but according to religious calculations, 15th February is the main day due to the importance of Nishita Kaal (midnight worship).
It is believed that on this date Lord Shiva left the life of renunciation and adopted a household life. By observing fast on this day and worshiping all the four Prahars, all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled and the troubles of life are relieved.

Chaturdashi Tithi Start: 15 February 2026, from 09:12 am.
Chaturdashi date ends: 16 February 2026, till 07:25 am.
Nishita Kaal Puja Muhurta: 12:09 AM to 01:01 AM (16 February) night of 15 February.
Char Prahar puja time
Worshiping all four hours of the night on Shivratri gives special results.
First Prahar: 15th February, 06:11 pm to 09:24 pm.
Second Prahar: 09:24 pm to 12:37 am.
Third Prahar: 12:37 pm to 03:50 am.
Fourth Prahar: 03:50 am to 07:02 am.
Method and importance of worship
On this day devotees wake up early in the morning and take bath. People go to Shiva temples and offer water, milk, belpatra, datura and cannabis on Shivalinga. Performing Abhishek while chanting the mantra “Om Namah Shivay” is considered extremely beneficial.
