Independent MP from Purnia, Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, was shifted to Patna Medical College and Hospital on Saturday after his health reportedly deteriorated a day after he was taken into custody. The arrest is linked to a case dating back to 1995.

According to officials, Yadav was first taken to Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences shortly after his arrest late Friday night. Doctors there conducted preliminary examinations before referring him to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Cardiology for specialised cardiac evaluation. He was later moved to Patna Medical College and Hospital for further observation and treatment.

Hospital authorities have not released detailed medical information, but sources indicated that he complained of uneasiness and required monitoring.

The arrest stems from allegations that Yadav had unlawfully rented a residential property in the Gardanibagh area of Patna and used it as a party office. The case was registered at the Gardanibagh police station in the mid-1990s. Authorities said action was taken after he failed to appear before the court in connection with the matter.

Police personnel reached his Mandiri residence on Friday night to execute the arrest warrant. The development triggered sharp reactions from his supporters, some of whom gathered outside his home.
