Prince William would show "no hesitation" when it comes to letting his disgraced uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, face a police investigation regarding his links to convicted paedophile, Jeffrey Epstein, it has been claimed. The former Duke of York has been dominating headlines after the latest tranche of Epstein files released by the US Department of Justice brought disturbing details about his association with the late US financier into the spotlight.
Andrew was stripped of his titles and honours last year and forced to move out of Royal Lodge in Windsor amid ongoing bombshells. Now, The Daily Beast's editor, Tom Sykes, wrote in his Royalist Substack that friends of the future King have spoken about his different approach when it comes to Andrew compared to his father.
He wrote: "Friends of William have told me that he would have 'no hesitation' in letting it be known that Andrew should face a 'probe' police investigation if he were king, and that he genuinely believes the monarchy cannot remain popular and respected if it does not at least give the appearance of respecting the principle that no man is above the law.
"By contrast, those close to the King believe he has no desire whatsoever to see his brother subjected to a full-blown police inquiry.
"One former royal staffer put it bluntly: 'The monarchy has shielded Andrew from any accountability for his actions for decades. That's not about to change.'"
It comes as the Prince and Princess of Wales express their "deep concerns" about the Epstein revelations, just as William began his three-day visit to Saudi Arabia.
It is the first time the views of William and Kate on the crisis have been made public, with the couple stressing that their thoughts "remain focused on the victims".
A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: "I can confirm that the Prince and Princess of Wales have been deeply concerned by the continued revelations.
"Their thoughts remain focused on the victims."
The Duke of Edinburgh was the first royal to publicly speak out since the Epstein documents were released, saying last week that it was important to "remember the victims" when asked how he was "coping" since the US Department of Justice's document dump.
