If you ever carefully watch iPhone advertisements or launch presentations, you'll notice one thing that's always common: the time displayed on the phone's screen. In every advertisement, the time displayed on the phone's screen is always set to 9:41 AM. If you think this is a coincidence, it's not; rather, Apple's deep thinking and strategy are behind it.
Why are all iPhones set to the same time?
Whether you look at Apple's very first iPhone or the latest iPhone 17, you'll find that all are set to 9:41 AM. In fact, when Apple's then-CEO, Steve Jobs, first introduced the iPhone to the world in San Francisco on January 9, 2007, this was the time on their watch. Apple wanted the time displayed on the screen and the time displayed on the audience's watches to be nearly the same when the phone was shown on stage. This is why this time became Apple's signature time.
The time was different in the beginning.
Initially, the screens of Apple products displayed 9:42 AM. The reason was that the company designed its launch events with very precise timing. Typically, a new product would be revealed approximately 40 to 42 minutes after the presentation began.
But during the iPad launch in 2010, Apple further refined the timing and set it to 9:41 AM. Since then, this time has been displayed on devices like the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook.
A different time appears on the Apple Watch.
Interestingly, the time on the Apple Watch is displayed as 10:09 AM, not 9:41 AM. This is due to a long-standing tradition in the watch industry, where watches are typically displayed at the 10:10 position to clearly display the dial and brand name. Apple followed this tradition, but chose the time of 10:09 AM to distinguish itself.
