Dhaka (Bangladesh). Working people have started returning to their homes to take part in the parliamentary elections to be held on February 12 in the country. He is upset with bus owners charging arbitrary fares. The patience of passengers broke on Tuesday morning.
They blocked Nabinagar-Chandra Highway in Baipel area of Ashulia at around 8 am in the morning. People did not move from the road for about two hours. This created chaos. Commuters said Monday was the last day of work for many garment factory workers before the elections, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
Due to this, a large number of people boarded buses to return to their villages. He alleged that bus conductors are taking advantage of this and charging higher fares. Mukhles, who was going to Jamalpur, said that the fare was being charged more than three times.
He said, “I want to go to my home in Jamalpur. Earlier the fare was 300 taka. Now they are asking for Tk 1,000. The authorities should fix the fare.” Abul Kalam Sohag, who was going to Rajshahi, also repeated the same complaint. He said, “After factory holidays for the elections, workers are returning home to vote.
The bus drivers are asking for double the fare. Earlier the fare was 500 taka. Now they are demanding more than Tk 1,000. He said that if the situation continues like this, many people will not be able to go home to vote. Savar Highway police station in-charge Sheikh Shahjahan said that the pressure of passengers on the highway has increased. Because of this many people were standing on the road, which caused a jam.
It is noteworthy that as soon as the elections were announced, Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam had warned in December that the increasing trend of blocking roads and highways on small issues should be stopped immediately. If this trend continues, then the security arrangements for the national elections to be held on February 12 will be hampered.
