Children's Free Aadhaar Updates: A crucial update has arrived regarding children's Aadhaar cards. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has completed the mandatory biometric update (MBU) for over 10 million children studying in 83,000 schools across the country. When creating Aadhaar cards for children under the age of five, only their photo, name, date of birth, gender, address, and birth certificate are taken. Fingerprints and iris scans are not taken at this age because their biometrics are not fully developed. Therefore, when children turn 5 and 15, it is mandatory to add their fingerprints and iris to their Aadhaar. This is called MBU (Mandatory Biometric Update).

Important Updates Regarding Children's Aadhaar
UIDAI has taken this step to ensure that children's Aadhaar records are accurate and up-to-date, ensuring they do not face any difficulties in availing government schemes and educational services in the future. If children's Aadhaar is not updated with MBU (Mandatory Biometric Update), they may face many difficulties. Such as availing the benefits of government schemes, or verifying their identity while filling out college admission forms for competitive exams like NEET, JEE, CUET, and so on.

MBU Update
According to UIDAI, it has completed MBU for over 10 million children studying in 83,000 schools across the country. Starting October 1st, UIDAI made MBU completely free for children aged 7 to 15 years, and this facility will remain available for one year.

UIDAI launched a special MBU campaign for school children in September 2025. This campaign was made possible because UIDAI integrated technology with the Education Department's UDISE+ app, making it possible to clearly display the MBU status of children in schools. This allowed UIDAI and schools to easily identify children whose MBU was pending, and then set up camps in schools to complete their biometric updates. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has written to the Chief Secretaries of all states and union territories, urging them to support this campaign and organize MBU camps in schools. In addition to school camps, children can also complete their MBU by visiting any Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra across the country.
