A Karachi court on Thursday granted an extension of interim bail to YouTuber Rajab Butt in his ongoing case concerning alleged disrespect to Islamic symbols. The hearing, presided over by an Additional District and Sessions Judge, was adjourned after defence counsel requested more time, and the court extended Butt’s interim bail until March 30.

Rajab Butt appeared in court for the scheduled session. The complainant’s lawyer pointed out that the session was set for 8:30 a.m., but Butt appeared an hour late, at 9:30 a.m., and requested a continuation of his bail. The lawyer also argued that the prosecution was ready to present evidence, but the defence counsel failed to attend.

A junior lawyer representing Butt explained that the main defence lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq, was on official leave. The judge noted previous instances of the defence failing to appear and advised that a formal request be submitted. Following this, the court approved the adjournment and confirmed the bail extension.

This case was originally registered at Hyderi Market Police Station. Butt had previously secured interim bail in this matter.

Earlier incidents outside the courtroom added to the tension surrounding the case. Butt was reportedly assaulted by a group of lawyers at Karachi’s City Court. Eyewitnesses stated that a verbal argument escalated into a physical scuffle, forcing his defence team to intervene. Butt was later escorted safely out of the court premises.
