The State Bank of India on Tuesday said that a nationwide bank strike has been scheduled for February 12, 2026, cautioning customers that banking services may be affected to a limited extent.

“Work may be impacted to a limited extent during the strike,” said the country's largest public sector bank, reported Reuters.

Moreover, according to the news agency, IDBI Bank has also received a formal notice of the strike from bank unions.

However, neither banks nor the Reserve Bank of India have declared February 12 as a bank holiday, indicating that branches are expected to remain open.

Feb 12 Bank Strike: What's it about?

Leading bank unions, including the All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), have called on their members to participate in the strike.

Moreover, the unions are joining a broader protest by 10 Central Trade Unions.

The strike call is aimed at opposing the four new labour codes notified by the government in November, which seek to replace 29 existing labour laws. Bank unions have argued that the proposed codes weaken workers’ rights and make it harder to register trade unions.

In addition, long-standing demands such as improved work-life balance and a five-day work week have also been raised.

Meanwhile, Bank of Baroda has informed the stock exchange about the possible impact of the strike. In a filing to the BSE, the bank said it is taking steps to ensure smooth functioning, but warned that branch and office operations may be affected if the strike goes ahead as planned.

In light of the situation, banks have advised customers to plan important transactions in advance, as routine branch services such as cash transactions, cheque clearing and customer assistance could see delays.

However, digital banking services, including mobile and internet banking, are expected to remain largely unaffected.
